Ray's Arithmetic Division 4

38. 1. Division is indicated in three ways:

1st. 1)2, which means that 1 is to be divided by 2.

2d. ½ which means that 1 is to be divided by 2.

3rd. 1 ÷ 2, which means that 1 is to be divided by 2.      

2.  In using the first sign when the divisor does not exceed 12, draw a line under the dividend, and write the quotient beneath; if the divisor exceeds 1, draw a curved line on the right of the dividend, and place the quotient on the right of this.

3. The sign ( ÷ ) is read Divided by
