Simbirsk/Ulyanosk - City

Ульяновск.jpg
Simbirsk is a Russian city, located on the Volga River, and in the east of Moscow. This city was the birthplace of Vladimir Lenin. This City was founded in 1648 by boyar Bogdan Khitrovo, and was first a fort. It was meant to protect the Russian Eastern Empire. During a war Russia had to retreat to Siberia, which made Simbirsk's purpose vanish. Simbirsk had made it to City Status in 1796. Simbirsk In 1856 had reached a population of 26,000. Then in 1897, they had reached to 43,000.  This City had been damaged by fire in 1864, and was rebuilt quickly. This City was named after Vladimir Lenin, who was originally named 'Ulyanov'.  During the Soviet period, Simbirsk which is now called Ulyanosk, had been a good tourist center.  When the Soviet Union was starting to decease in the 1990s, Ulyanosk had suffered through hard times, bad productions,  everyone started to leave, and mass unemployment. From 2002 Ulyanosk had started to increase, and now a Tourist Center again.
