Platinum is a chemical element with the symbol Pt.  The word Platinum came from the Spanish word "Platina" which meant Little Silver.  One of the first European reference was in 1557, by Julius Caesar Scaliger; An Italian Scholar. Who described it as the unknown metal used by the nobles.  As pure metal, Platinum is very shiny, malleable, and ductile.  Platinum is more ductile then gold, making it the most ductile metal we have found so far.  Platinum is well known for being made into fine jewelry, as it resists Corrosion well.  It is almost impossible to dissolve Platinum in nitric acid.  But easily dessolves in Aqua Regia to Hydrochloric  Acid.

From 1992 July a ounce of pure Platinum was $375, in July 2008 the prices rose to $2050, making it $1650 profit per ounce, which was was a very good for investors. In July 2012, the price of Platinum per ounce is at 1440, which is a -$610 loss for new investors, but still a +$1040 profit for the investors who invested in years 1992-2000, and 2002.
